Mom and Dad the meeting

Mom and Dad the meeting

Here is a really cute “my mom and dad story.” They were actually about four years apart. Mom older then dad. My mom was married the day after she turned 16 to Thurman cauley. (My brother and sisters dad) there was no work in rural Arkansas and thurmans brother worked at chapmans in Berlin. It was one of two companies hiring at that time in the depression. So by the time they got the money and moved, mom moved up here with her husband and my then three week old brother. They moved in with thurmans brother and he got a job. They moved on ceresco street just down from the wieners. Dad was still ten and he told me it was the talk of the town. Thurman brought him back a wife from the back woods. ( believe me still back woods) All the kids went to see her. Remember she was a married women and they were still kids. He would pay a girl a penny to ride her bike and ride by the house to see mom. He thought she was so beautiful. I think it was funny. Anyway ten years later my moms husband died of a massive heart attack. She raised butch and sis in Berlin so she knew the weiner’s well. Then when my brother went into service and my sister graduated high school, she and mom moved to Milwaukee , my sister had job here at globe union. Mom could only work part time and was working at American motors. Dad came back from service and was going to Milwaukee school of engineering. He quit and took a job at AMC too. He saw her eating lunch on the steps. He said she was hotter then when he was ten! So he asked her out. Eventually they got married. Needless to say I was an accident, 21 years after my brother and 19 years after my sister. I have a nephew 9 months younger then me. So I have three great grand nieces and two great grand nephews. Sis never had kids but butch had six. So lots of nieces and nephews.

Just a note as mean as dad was to mom and as violent and traumatic as my life was with them together, he really loved her. After she dies in 1995 he was devastated. He thought he would go first. He wanted to be buried next to her but she went to Arkansas and she hated Berlin where he wanted to go. He never remarried. She was the one he loved. Too bad so many times he didn’t show it….
